The Samaritan Inn |
 |
| |
The Samaritan Inn was established in 1984 after community leaders joined together to address the issue of homelessness in Collin County. They formed a Board of Directors and incorporated the Collin County Care Center to administer programs and services to the Samaritan Inn. As of December 2003, Collin County has over 615,000 residents.
As the only facility serving the homeless in Collin County, it provides services free of charge through funding made from donations by churches, service organizations, corporations, and individuals. As a member of the United Way of Collin County, it also receives funding from grant applications. |

America Can Academy |
 |
| |
America Can! embraces students society overlooks.
Determined not to be left behind, these kids voluntarily seek a high school diploma against the highest of odds. With the help of generous donors, our academies can help students learn on their own terms, providing a path to economic independence.
America Can! is a nation-wide network of public charter schools. Started in 1985 as a remedial program for juvenile offenders, the program has expanded to kid’s facing tough social issues – for example, drop outs, those living below the poverty level and must work to support their families and pregnant teens/young mothers. If these kids don’t receive academic assistance and counseling now, they face a life of constant economic struggle. |
